Clift Hotel

Built in 1915, the Clift Hotel is a historic San Francisco landmark in the heart of the city’s theater district and close to Union Square. Plant renovated the 15-story, 350-room hotel by upgrading guestrooms and public spaces, renovating the exterior facade, and preserving the legendary Redwood Room, which was added in 1934 and sheathed entirely in redwood. The project demanded a fast-track schedule and was completed while the hotel was in full operation with minimal disruption to guests. Collaboration with a renowned designer and leading hotel developer enhanced the Clift’s studied elegance while giving it a renewed modern presence.
